while we're all getting ready for this storm - very curious this sort of thing, not something i've dealt with before. not something that happened in cloudbank. would have caused many problems though fixing them would have been simple i suppose!
in any case, yes! the subject of this post!
from what i have seen and heard many people give their pokemon names. i suppose it makes sense! but i cannot decide on names for mine. nothing seems to fit! i have not named many sentient creatures before. the ones i have i have been told my names are not very creative.
['Jerk' is a totally valid name for a creature, okay.]
i am a programmer and engineer by trade but i do not think those terms are very fitting for my pokemon.
[Red took all of the function names already. He's tempted to name the cat 'Asher' even if the cat is female.]
i have:
- magnemite (neuter)
- sentret (male)
- purrloin (female)
- dratini (female)
- skarmony (female)
- gastly (female)
- bronzor (neuter)
i did not realize how many female pokemon i have until just now. oh well nothing to be done about it nothing at all. i would prefer if they follow some sort of consistent naming theme but if one seems fitting i suppose it can be an anomaly.
---
[And if anyone wants to speak to the nerd, he's sitting in the Pokemon Center in Violet City with a Magnemite orbiting around him and a Dratini clinging to his leg.]

Naming your Pokemon is easy! I just go with stuff that reminds me of them. Like, my Furret, Cherry- I caught her near Cherrygrove City! Sooo, I named her after that! Cherry!
My Volcarona is a fire type so she's called Inferno, but she had her name before I got her. Then there's Lucius, my Houndoom, who I named after a super good friend from back home.
So like...what kinds of personalities do your Pokemon have? Or do you have any friends from home you think you'd wanna name them after?

i don't think one of my friends would appreciate his namesake being a female cat. and i think i'd rather shy away from some of those names in general.
[Red probably would not appreciate them very much.]

My Buizel didn't really like me too much when he hatched, either. I mean I think he's getting better now that he's getting stronger, but I dunno! He's a little jealous of my other Pokemon for evolving before him I think. His name is Lucky, though.
Y'see he likes to pick fights with other Pokemon a lot, so he ends up getting hurt and I have to take him to the Pokemon Center...but he keeps on fighting anyway! So he's lucky he's still in one piece, haha.
[Jimmy...]
My Sliggoo's name is Guava. That's um...that's a fruit I think? I'm not actually sure but I remember that name being a fruit I'm pretty sure...But yaknow, just things like that.
So let's pick one. Magnemite are all shiny and metal and stuff, aren't they? You could always name it Chrome...or maybe something to do with electricity, like Spark or Static?
[text]
hm. 'ampere' could work. it's a unit of electrical current. and metal is electrically conductive!

Re: [text]
You said most of your Pokemon are pretty calm, right? Is there anything else that might set your Sentret apart from the others?

Re: [text]
Aw, I think that's a perfect name!

The line has long since been crossed.]
Sounds like they're real curious then. Nosy, maybe.

[... Huh.]
[He takes a moment to try out some of the names with her.]
well she didn't try to bite me for 'bianca'.

[text]
skarmory is going to be 'dynamica'. but i have no idea how to name a ghost or a... whatever bronzor is.

i suppose you could say it's the 'impression' of a person, what their particular skills are.
