-002- [Text] [Action for Violet City]

while we're all getting ready for this storm - very curious this sort of thing, not something i've dealt with before. not something that happened in cloudbank. would have caused many problems though fixing them would have been simple i suppose!

in any case, yes! the subject of this post!

from what i have seen and heard many people give their pokemon names. i suppose it makes sense! but i cannot decide on names for mine. nothing seems to fit! i have not named many sentient creatures before. the ones i have i have been told my names are not very creative.

['Jerk' is a totally valid name for a creature, okay.]

i am a programmer and engineer by trade but i do not think those terms are very fitting for my pokemon.

[Red took all of the function names already. He's tempted to name the cat 'Asher' even if the cat is female.]

i have:
- magnemite (neuter)
- sentret (male)
- purrloin (female)
- dratini (female)
- skarmony (female)
- gastly (female)
- bronzor (neuter)

i did not realize how many female pokemon i have until just now. oh well nothing to be done about it nothing at all. i would prefer if they follow some sort of consistent naming theme but if one seems fitting i suppose it can be an anomaly.

[And if anyone wants to speak to the nerd, he's sitting in the Pokemon Center in Violet City with a Magnemite orbiting around him and a Dratini clinging to his leg.]

I'm not good with themed names, but 'Purry' could fit for your Purrloin. Very... cat-like and feminine.

[This is obviously going to be a very productive brainstorming session.]

Some of them like simplistic names. Others won't answer to anything less than 'Her Most Purrfect Highness, Princess Kitty Kat'. Depends on their moods and personalities.

Not risking painful retribution with every name you offer will make the naming process go much more smoothly. As for your Dratini... Do you like mythology? There should be plenty of suitable and impressive dragon names in there. Maybe even for the others, except your Magnemite.

Me neither, but it has its uses if you lack inspiration and don't mind sounding a bit pretentious. What about constellations, then? ...No, wait, the local constellations are probably all Pokémon anyway.

...On the one hand, that sounds horrifyingly dizzying. On the other hand, that gives you more choices for names?

The Magnemite is probably still going to be tricky, and maybe the Gastly too, but if your constellations are anything like mine the others should be covered.

You might end up using whatever name you choose for years, and she'll have to answer to it. A little pickiness is to be expected.

That must make meal planning interesting. Does she at least make her preferences clear?

we didn't have weather like this where i'm from either

i mean we kinda did? but not really. i guess.

you know what never mind.

[It was giving her a headache anyway.]

i would just say names of stuff i like and let them choose if i were you. or if they kinda look fitting? like kitkat bars are candy, but jigglypuff have kitty ears so i named her kitkat, see?
rarestcandy: (alright slice the crap outta him)

[personal profile] rarestcandy 2014-08-01 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah i mean

if they try to flamethrower your face off, that's probably not the kinda reaction you'd want even if that's a pretty big reaction

but hey, choosing the name can be a bonding experience then or something.

[Royce, you had Jimmy at "Sentret", I hope you know.]

Naming your Pokemon is easy! I just go with stuff that reminds me of them. Like, my Furret, Cherry- I caught her near Cherrygrove City! Sooo, I named her after that! Cherry!

My Volcarona is a fire type so she's called Inferno, but she had her name before I got her. Then there's Lucius, my Houndoom, who I named after a super good friend from back home.

So like...what kinds of personalities do your Pokemon have? Or do you have any friends from home you think you'd wanna name them after?

[Do only what Red would approve of, Royce.]

My Buizel didn't really like me too much when he hatched, either. I mean I think he's getting better now that he's getting stronger, but I dunno! He's a little jealous of my other Pokemon for evolving before him I think. His name is Lucky, though.

Y'see he likes to pick fights with other Pokemon a lot, so he ends up getting hurt and I have to take him to the Pokemon Center...but he keeps on fighting anyway! So he's lucky he's still in one piece, haha.

[Jimmy...]

My Sliggoo's name is Guava. That's um...that's a fruit I think? I'm not actually sure but I remember that name being a fruit I'm pretty sure...But yaknow, just things like that.

So let's pick one. Magnemite are all shiny and metal and stuff, aren't they? You could always name it Chrome...or maybe something to do with electricity, like Spark or Static?
awesmazings: (☼ well it goes like this)
