[The first shot of this video is... leaves. Surprisingly green leaves, for the season. Then the camera switches and there's Royce, sitting in a tree in the middle of winter. He's bundled up at least, but the background behind him is... moving? The smoke from his cigarette traces patterns through the air.]

[Then he points the camera down and it becomes clear that he's on a Torterra, though one that's oddly colored. The camera swings back to him again and he - well, he doesn't quite smile but it's close.]

Fascinating! Absolutely... absolutely fascinating! I had no idea that the tortoise I received would become something so... massive. I think... well, it's not the most... unexpected evolution I've seen, but... well. He's certainly different than what I thought.

I'm... wondering... what's the most... unusual evolution of a Pokemon that you're aware of? It's... it's quite interesting to me, this whole... evolution concept. It seems like there's a good deal of energy that's let off, too much... I wonder...

[Unfortunately he doesn't have the resources to deal with that kind of thing... but still. It's interesting to think about. He gazes off into the distance for a few more moments before he looks down at the Pokegear, startled, and turns it off.]

[Jimmy honestly isn't sure if he's ever seen Royce this excited about anything, and that- coupled with the fact that he's...up in a tree- is enough to make him want to respond to this.]

As for evolutions, well...gosh, they're all so cool I dunno if I could say any one is more unexpected than another. But if I had to pick, I'd prolly say that I didn't think Inferno would get as big as she did when she evolved from Larvesta to Volcarona.

It's a Torterra. Useful, very useful, though a bit... slow for purposes of transport.

[Tortoises gonna tortoise, apparently.]

Ah, yes. A lot do grow quite... large, very large, don't they?

[He grins, straining to see if he can catch a glimpse of the Pokemon's head through the canopy of leaves surrounding Royce.]

Big enough to ride on, yeah! She's the best flier I've got.

I don't know if I'd call it the most unusual, but I still think the most drastic one that I've seen is Gyarados! I mean, for little Magikarp to become so big and powerful after all of that training...I can't help but still be really proud of my Marlin, even though he evolved so long ago!

The first one that comes to mind is Dragonair to Dragonite. Dragonair is a long, spindly creature that resembles a graceful serpent. Dragonite is...

[She turns her gear and shows off Spike the Dragonite, who waves cheerfully and a little dopily at the camera.]

I'm... familiar with Dragonair now, but... I see. I... so that's what I have to look forward to.

[It doesn't look like a snooty creature, but Bianca will probably find a way.]

Yeah, it's quite the change. Especially in comparison to the Dratini to Dragonair evolution, which really reminded me more of a child growing up than anything. But they don't seem to mind it... then again, Spike's so easygoing he probably would have been fine with just about anything. And I suppose he probably was quite pleased to actually have limbs.

[Even if she still has no idea how he flies with those teeny tiny wings.]

[Hm...] All the evolutions I've seen haven't been too odd, but I always thought it was interesting how different Gallade and Gardevoir look, considering they evolve from the same pokemon.

... Gallade is a male-only evolution? That seems... odd.

Isn't it? My Kirlia, when she evolved, was quite happy to evolve into a Gardevoir, so I didn't think much of it at the time. But it does seem a bit odd that only males will evolve when exposed to the stone.

... I honestly have no idea how that works, considering male and female Kirlia are exactly the same, though... [she lets out a small laugh.] I've more or less given up on trying to make sense of some of the things that happen here.

[Clover hasn't been here long enough to provide much in the way of answers as far as that question goes, but even if she was super familiar with all this evolution business, the goddamn tree turtle distracts her way too much to worry about that.]

It's a turtle growing a tree out of its back and we're just gonna accept that. [Someday this world is going to make sense to her but today is not that day.]

I think Gyarados is the strangest evolution I've seen. They start off as Magikarps and are... almost useless in battle.

Ah... to answer your question though, there is one pokemon whose evolution surprised me. Stalker, could you come here a minute?

[ And sure enough, a curious male meowstic comes from offscreen, head tilted in curiosity at his trainer before pushing himself onto Yukio's lap and taking up a good half of the screen. ]

H-- hey! But... as you can see, this is Stalker. He evolved from an espurr and let's just say he didn't look anything like this.

Hm... my own Espurr haven't evolved yet. I have three of them, though I... didn't intend to.
