me_first: (smoke break)
[The first shot of this video is... leaves. Surprisingly green leaves, for the season. Then the camera switches and there's Royce, sitting in a tree in the middle of winter. He's bundled up at least, but the background behind him is... moving? The smoke from his cigarette traces patterns through the air.]

[Then he points the camera down and it becomes clear that he's on a Torterra, though one that's oddly colored. The camera swings back to him again and he - well, he doesn't quite smile but it's close.]

Fascinating! Absolutely... absolutely fascinating! I had no idea that the tortoise I received would become something so... massive. I think... well, it's not the most... unexpected evolution I've seen, but... well. He's certainly different than what I thought.

I'm... wondering... what's the most... unusual evolution of a Pokemon that you're aware of? It's... it's quite interesting to me, this whole... evolution concept. It seems like there's a good deal of energy that's let off, too much... I wonder...

[Unfortunately he doesn't have the resources to deal with that kind of thing... but still. It's interesting to think about. He gazes off into the distance for a few more moments before he looks down at the Pokegear, startled, and turns it off.]

Sadly, you're entirely right. We don't even have theories, just hypotheses.

Yeah. That's what happens when the laws of physics decide someplace only barely qualifies as under their jurisdiction.

True. The temperatures in particular seem utterly absurd. If a Maccargo were really as hot as the Pokedex claims it is, it would burn right through the ground.

I just tend to assume the true experts haven't edited all the information we see. We're probably getting as much rumor and urban legends as we are actual scientific fact.

Well, every so often I do see changes... they may just be very slow in the editing process. Keep in mind there only seems to be maybe one of them for every region.

Well, have you ever seen a Pokemon University?

Fair enough, but you're in the largest city in Johto. I can promise you that if they don't have higher education in someplace like that, they're not going to have it elsewhere either. And Kanto's no better.

Teaching in this world seems to stop at about the grade school level. It's actually very distressing when you think about it.

That, I have no idea about. How they manage to create things like the gear and the magnet train when they all seem to go on Pokemon journeys rather than continue their educations... it makes no sense.

I'm not entirely certain they have them to give. We may just not be meeting the people who know all of this.

It seems like these are questions no one expects anyone to ask, for some reason. They just aren't prepared for it.

You would think, but we're hampered by the fact that really... The world doesn't change much. When it does, it does it rapidly, suddenly. It's impossible not to notice. Kind of like the Pokemon, actually.

friendyousohard: (Elementary my dear Pinkie)
Exactly. And when that happened, we got new arrivals from a far-off region called Kalos, which none of us had ever heard of before. It was like something was... adding to the world, somehow.

Wait, what sort of process are you talking about?

[Because that really sounds like something that deserves some elaboration.]
